Question

A slab is subjected to two forces F1 and F2 of same magnitude F as shown in the figure. Force F2 is in XYplane while force F1 acts along zaxis at the point (2^i+3^j). The moment of these forces about point O will be:

Solution

The correct option is A (3^i2^j+3^k)F
From the given figure,

F1=F^k
F2=Fsin30(^i)+Fcos30(^j)=F2(^i)+F32(^j)
r1=2^i+3^j
r2=0^i+6^j

Torque due to force F1,

τF1=r1×F1

τF1=(2^i+3^j)×F^k

τF1=3F^i+2F(^j)

Torque due to force F2,

τF2=r2×F2

τF2=6^j×(F2(^i)+F32(^j))

τF2=3F(^k)

τnet=τF1+τF2

τnet=3F^i+2F(^j)+3F(^k)

τnet=(3^i2^j+3^k)F

Hence, option (A) is correct.
