A solid $A B$ has the $N a C l$ structure. If radius of the cation $A^{+}$ is $120 p m$ , calculate the maximum value of the radius of the anion $B^{-}$ .

Since, $N a C l$ has octahedral structure,

The limiting ration $\frac{r_{A}^{+}}{r_{B}^{-}} = 0.414$

or $r_{B}^{-} = \frac{r_{A}^{+}}{0.414} = \frac{120}{0.414} = 290$ pm

Thus, the radius of the anion B $^{-} =$ 290 pm
