A spiral is made up of successive semicircles, with centres alternately at A and B, starting with centre A, for radii 0.5 cm,1 cm,1.5 cm,2 cm, ...... as shown in the figure. What is the total length of such spiral made up of thirteen consecutive semicircles?

Perimeter of first semi-circle =π×r=227×12=117
Perimeter of second semi-circle =227×1=227
So, d=227117=117
S13=132(2×117+117×12)
=132(22+1327)=132×1547=143 cm
