Initial momentum of the system is zero, i.e.

Given, the velocity acquire by masses m1 and m2 just after they are released be v1 and v2.

Final momentum of the system,

Pf=m2v2m1v1

Using conservation of momentum,

Pi=Pf

0=m2v2m1v1

m2x2m1x1=0 [v=dxdt]

x1x2=m2m1

Hence, (A) is the correct answer.
