A student fixes a slinky to one end of a smooth table . He gives a transverse horizontal jerk to create a pulse in the slinky. The pulse completes four to and fro journeys along the length of the table . The time taken for the journey is 2.8 sec . The length of the table is 25 cm . What is the speed of the pulse moving on the slinky?

length of table is d=25cm

if we provide a transverse horizontal jerk it will follow to and fro journeys

per journey it will cover 2d=50cm distance.

so in four to and fro journeys it will complete total =(50*4)cm=200cm=2m

total ttime taken to complete it=2.8sec

so velocity=(2/2.8)m/sec=0.714m/sec9(Ans)
