Gel electrophoresis is done for separating DNA fragments formed after restriction digestion. Since, a cocktail of restriction enzymes have been used in the given case, it will result in digestion of DNA segments at many places. Digestion at many places leads to the formation of numerous small fragments, so these fragments show greater movement under the influence of electric field towards the anode.
