A survey was done on students (boys and girls) at Star High school about their favorite subject in high school. The results are shown in the double bar graph below. Use the double bar graph to interpret the following information:
a) Which subject is the most favorite of boys and of girls at this high school?
b) Name the two subjects that are liked by girls more than boys?
c) How many more boys than girls like Math as their favorite subject?
(3 marks)
a) To find out the most favorite subject of boys at the high school, we look for the longest blue bar in the graph. To find out the most favorite subject of girls at the high school, we look for the longest red bar in the graph. In this case, the longest bars in both red and blue are in Chemistry.
Thus, Chemistry is the most favorite subject of both boys and girls at the high school.

b). To find out the two subjects that are liked by girls more than boys, we compare each subject for both groups and determine the subjects for which the red bar is longer than the blue bar. In this case, we can see that the red bar is longer than the blue bar for the two subjects of English and Chemistry
Thus, English and Chemistry are liked by girls more than boys.

c.) The blue bar for Math shows a label of 28. Thus, 28 boys listed Math as their favorite subject in the survey.
The red bar for Math shows a label of 20. Thus, 20 girls listed Math as their favorite subject in the survey.
To find how many boys like Math as their favorite subject more than girls, we subtract the value of the red bar (20) from the value of the blue bar (28). Therefore, the number of boys who like Math more than girls is:
28 − 20=8
We get that there are 8 more boys than girls who like Math as their favorite subject.
