Question

A tent is in the form of a cylinder of diameter 15 m and height 2.4 m, surmounted by a cone of equal base and height 4 m. Find the capacity of the tent and the cost of the canvas at Rs. 50 per square meter.

Given diameter of cylinder=15ms
∴ radius=15ms/2=7.5ms
height=2.4ms
surface area of cylinder =2πrh
=2*22/7*7.5*2.4 m*m
=113.14m *m
since it is given equal base radius is also equal
∴radius of cone =7.5ms
given height =4m
∴l=√h*h+r*r
l=√4*4+7.5*7.5
l=13.275
c.s.a. of cone =π*r*l
=22/7 *7.5*13.2 =312.91m*m
total surface area = c.s.a of cylinder +c.s.a of cone
=113.14+312.91 =426.05m*m
cost of canvas per m square =50RS
∴cost of canvas required=426.05*50 =21302.5 RS
