A tile is a square of side 30cm. Find the number of tiles required to cover the floor of a square room of side 3m.

Step 1: Find the area of the square tile

We know that, the area of a square =(lengthofasideofsquare)2

The length of a side of the square tile =30cm

The area of square tile =(30)2cm2

=900cm2

Step 2: Find the area of the square room

The length of a side of the square room =3m

=3×100cm ( as 1m=100cm )

=300cm

The area of square room =(300)2cm2

=90000cm2

Step 3: Divide the area of the room with the area of a tile to find the number of tiles required

Number of tiles required to cover the floor =90000÷900

=100

Hence, 100 tiles are required to cover the floor of the given square room.
