A toroid has 1000 turns. The inner and outer radii of its core are 15 cm and 17 cm respectively. The magnetic field in the centre of core for a current of 0.985 A is 1.97 T. The value of relative permeability of core is.

N=1000 turns; r1=15 cm
r2=17 cm; I=0.985 A; B=1.97 T

So, mean radius of toroid will be

r=r1+r22=15+172

r=16 cm=16×102 m

No of turns per unit length is

n=N2πr=10002π×16×102

And we know that, magnetic field at the mean radius due to toroid will be

B=μnI (μ=μ0μr)

μ=BnI=1.970.9852π×16×1021000

μ=64π×105 TmA1

So, relative permeability of core will be

μr=μμ0=64π×1054π×107=1600
