Let train started with x passengers from first station

On second station one third passengers down and 120 in

Then second station train started with $(\frac{2x}{2}-120)$ passengers

After second station half passenger halt and 100 passenger in

Then third station train started with $\frac{1}{2}(\frac{2x}{2}-120)+100$

$\therefore \frac{1}{2}(\frac{2x}{3}-120)+100=240$

$\Rightarrow x+180+300=720$

$\Rightarrow x=240$
