Given:

Cv=0.004 cm3/s

ΔH=CcH01+e0log10(¯¯¯σ0+¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Δσ¯¯¯σ0)

H0 = thickness of clay layer = 10 m.

¯¯¯σ0 = effective stress before application of load at the centre of clay layer.

¯¯¯σ0 = (15 × 2) + (18 - 10) × 6 + (18 - 10) × 5

=118kN/m2

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Δσ = increase in effective stress due to the structural weight at the centre of clay layer.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Δσ = 1500π4×(3+12)2=8.488kN/m2
