(a) What is the effect of a larger voice box in grown up boys ?
(b) What is the effect of a smaller voice box in grown up girls ?
(a) During puberty, testosterone causes a boy's larynx to get bigger. The vocal cords also lengthen and thicken in response to testosterone thus directly affecting the pitch of the voice. When the pitch of sound becomes low, the frequency also decreases and makes the voice heavier.
(b) The smaller voice box in girls leads to a less longer and even thinner set of vocal chords. This results in changing the pitch of the sound . Changed pitch also leads to an increase in the frequency of the sound generated by the voice box leading to a shriller voice , a high pitched voice.
