a) Hydrochloric acid is present in the gastric juices in the stomach. The pH of the gastric juice is between 1 to 2. HCl has important role in the digestion process. HCl in the stomach causes the activation of enzymes. HCl is used to convert the enzyme pepsinogen into pepsin. Pepsin breaks up the peptides from the protein. The acid destroys the bacteria and the other microorganisms entered in the body through food.
