Write the fractions. Are all these fractions equivalent?
In the given figure, to find the fractions(colored part) representation is done in the following way:
(i) Count the number of equal parts in which the figure is divided.
(ii) Count the number of coloured parts.
(iii) Fraction (the shaded part) represents =
Number of equal parts colouredTotal number of parts in which the figure is equally divided
∴The fractions shown in the diagrams are 12, 24, 36, 48 respectively.
Now, 24=12, 36=12, 48=12
⇒ All of these fractions are equivalent. (∵ They represent the same part of a whole)
