Solution

Zinc is more reactive than copper and so it had displaced copped from copper sulphate solution thus the colour of the solution got fader and fader with time. Zinc displaced copper and formed zinc sulphate so, when the zinc plate was removed it had holes in it.

copper sulphate + zinc zinc sulphate + copper
CuSO4+ZnZnSO4+Cu
