Solution

The correct option is D Both B and C
Karl Landsteiner (1900) recognized four types of blood groups in human beings commonly known as ABO blood groups. In human beings there are present two antigens A and B on the surface of red blood cells. There are also present two antibodies, a and b. Accordingly the four blood groups are:
1. Blood group A having antigen A and antibody b
2. Blood group B having antigen B and antibody a
3. Blood group AB having both antigens A and B but no antibodies
4. Blood group O having no antigen but both antibodies
According to Landsteiner law, if an antigen is present on the red blood cells the corresponding antibody must be absent from the plasma or if the antigen is absent from the erythrocytes, the corresponding antibody must be present in the plasma.
Thus, the correct answer is option D.
