The interdigitation of maternal and foetal tissue, that is, chronic villi from foetus and uterine tissue from mother interlock to form placenta. Placenta plays an important role exchange of gases between mother and the foetus it helps to remove carbon dioxide and provides oxygen to the foetus, it also helps in removing the waste or excreta from the foetus, it helps in providing nutrition to the foetus.
