Ammonium chloride cystallise in a body-centred cubic lattice with a unit distance of 387pm. Calculate
(a) the distance between oppositely charged ion in the lattice and
(b) the radius of the NH+4 ion if the radius of Cl ion is 181pm

1. NH+4 is at body centre and Cl at body corners. Distance between opposite charged ion =a32=38732=335.15 pm
2. For BCC, Ideal ration of r+r=0.732
rNH+4rCl=0.732
rNH+4=0.732×181=132.49 pm
