The correct option is C The sodium gates being open and the potassium gate closed
When the stimulus given to a resting neuron is supra-threshold, it results in an action potential. During this time, the sodium gates open and there is an influx of sodium ions into the cell. Generally, the resting potential value is -70 mv. Due to the influx of sodium ions, this potential value changes to about +40mv. The potassium channels remain closed during this time. The membrane potential again comes back to its normal value i.e negative during the repolarization phase. During this phase, the potassium channel opens and there is an efflux of potassium ions out of the cell. Thus, the correct answer is option C.
