Question

An air sample containing 21:79 of O2 and N2 (molar ratio) is heated to 2400C. If the mole percent of NO at equilibrium is 1.8%. Calculate the Kp of the reaction N2+O22NO

Open in App
Solution

N2+O22NO
initially 1 1 0
of equation 1 - x 1- x 2x
total moles 0.79(1x)+0.21(1x)+2x
Given that 2x = 0.018
x = 0.009
= 0.79 - 0.79x + 0.21 - 0.21 x + 2x
= 1 - 1 x + 2x = 1 + x = 1 + 0.009
= 1.009
Kp=2x2(1x)2=(2×0.009)2(10.009)2
