An alloy consists of 27½kg of copper and 2¾kg of tin. Find the ratio by weight of tin to the alloy.

Total weight of alloy=27½+2¾
=121/4 gm
Weight of tin. = 2¾ gm
= 11/4 gm
Ratio of weight of tin is to alloy = (11/4)÷(121/4)
= 11/121
= 1/11
