An aquarium is in the form of a cuboid whose length (l) is 50 cm, breadth (b)is 40 cm and height (h) is 30 cm. The base, back face and side faces are to be covered with a coloured paper. Find the area of the paper required to cover the aquarium. (Note that the front face and top face are not covered.)

The correct option is A 5900 cm2
Given : The aquarium is in the form of a cuboid.
The length of the aquarium = l = 50 cm

Breadth of the aquarium = b = 40 cm

Height of the aquarium = h = 30 cm

Required area to cover = Area of the base + area of the back face + (2 × area of the side face)

Required area to cover = l×b+l×h+2×b×h

Area of the base
=l×b=50×40=2000 cm2

Area of the back face
=l×h=50×30=1500 cm2

Area of the side face
=b×h=40×30=1200 cm2

Required area to cover =
=2000+1500+(2×1200)
= 5900 cm2

Hence the area of the coloured paper required is 5900 cm2.
