Given,

Magnification M=5 ; L=36 cm

M=f0fe ......(1)

5=f0fe

f0=5fe

The length of the tube i.e., distance between the objective and eye piece lens is,

L=f0+fe

where, f0= focal length of objective

fe=focal length of eyepiece

36=5fe+fe

36=6fe

fe=6 cm

Putting the value of fe in (1) we get,

5=f06

f0=30 cm
