The torque acting on the dipole is given as,
τ=pEsinθ
Where, p is the electric dipole moment of the system, E is the electric field and θ is the angle between uniform electric field and electric dipole moment.
By substituting the given values in the above equation, we get
τ=4×10−9×5×104×sin30°=20×10−5×12=10−4N-m
Thus, the magnitude of the torque acting on the dipole is 10−4N-m.
