Electric potential difference will be induced when there is charge separation in the conductor due to force by magnetic field, which is given by F=q(V×B)
So, to have F equal to non-zero, conductor should move perpendicular to the direction of B. Now, since B's direction is along L to R. So, v should be in direction of M, so we have to move conductor in
direction M.
