Question

An electrical appliance is rated at 1000KVA,220V. If the appliance is operated for 2 hours, calculate the energy consumed by the appliance in:
Joule

Open in App
Solution

Step 1 Given data:
P=1000kVA=1000kWt=2hV=220V

Step 2 Formula used:
Energy consumed in kWh is
E=P×t
Where, E is the Energy consumed, P is the Power, t is the time.

Step 3 Calculating the energy consumed by the appliance in Joule:
Energy consumed in kWh is given by E=P×t
E=1000×2=2000kWh.
We know that,
1kWh=3.6×106J
Now, energy consumed in J is 2000×3.6×106J
E=7.2×109J
Therefore, the energy consumed by the appliance in J is 7.2×109J.
