Question

An electron in hydrogen atom after absorbing energy photons can jump between energy states n1 and n2(n2>n1). Solution

The correct option is A n2=4,n1=3
Given- electron can jump to ground state emitting photons of six different wavelengths. n2(n21)2=6 on solving, we get n2=4

Now, we know that Energy of photon is given by- E=13.6[1n211n22]eVE=13.6[1n21116]eV

For minimum energy of the photon- we have ,n21<16 for maximum value of (n1)n1<4n1=3 we get ,n1=3 & n2=4 Hence , opt (a) is correct.
