Question

An element is represented by ZXA, where Z is atomic number which is also equal to number of proton, A is mass number and X is symbol of the element.
Mass number (A) = Number of protons (Z) + Number of neutrons.
Isoelectronic: Species/ elements having same number of electron
Isodiaphers: Elements having same value of |(A−2Z)|
Isotopes: Atoms having same number of proton

Solution

The correct option is B 3919K+, 4019K+
Isotopes are those elements which have the same atomic number and different mass numbers.

In option (a), both the species have the same mass number but different atomic numbers

In option (b), 3919K+; the number of protons = 19, number of electrons = 19 – 1 = 18
And in 4019K+; the number of protons = 19, number of electrons = 19 – 1 = 18
Option (b) is both isotopic and isoelectronic

In option (c), 168O2; the number of protons = 8, number of electrons = 10
And in 178O; the number of protons = 8, number of electrons = 8
So, option (c) is isotopic but not isoelectronic

In option (d), 2412Mg2+; the number of protons = 12, number of electrons = 10
And in 2512Mg; the number of protons = 12, number of electrons = 12

So, option (d) is isotopic but not isoelectronic.

So, option (b) is correct.
