Question

An element 'X' (At. mass = 40 g mol1) having FCC structure, has unit cell edge length of 400 pm. Calculate the density of 'X' and the number of unit cells in 4 g of 'X'.

(NA=6.022×1023 mol1)

Open in App
Solution

m = 40 g mol1

Z = 4 (fcc)

a = 400 pm = 400×1010cm

D = ZMa3N0

= 4×40(400×1010)3×6.022×1023

= 16064×106×1030×6.022×1023

= 16064×6.022×101=4.15 g cm3

No. of unit cells =W.No.Z.M

= 4×6.022×10234×40

= 1.505×1022
