Solution

Dear student,

Extra chromosomal segment of DNA is called plasmid and the technique used to transfer gene of interest into host cell is called transformation. The plasmid acts as a vector to carry the gene of interest into the host cell. When gene of interest is attached into plasmid and further introduced into host cell then the replication machinery of the host cell replicates the gene of interest along with vector (plasmid).
