An ideal heat engine is a Carnot engine.
Given ,W=Q16
η=WQ1=16
Also, η=1T2T1
1T2T1=16
T2T1=116=56 ...(i)
when temperature of sink is reduced, T2=T262 and the efficiency η becomes twice i.e η=13
Thus,
η=1T2T1
13=1(T262)T1
T262T1=23
T2T162T1=23 ...(ii)
From Eq.(i) & (ii),
62T1+23=56
T1=372 K ...(iii)
From Eq.(iii), (i) we get,
T2=5T16
T2=56×372=310 K
Hence temperature of source and sink are respectively 372 K, 310 K
