Question

An object is placed between two plane parallel mirrors. Why do the distant images get fainter and fainter?

Open in App
Solution

  1. When an object is placed between two plane-parallel mirrors, then an infinite number of images are formed.
  2. Images are formed due to multiple reflections. At each reflection, a part of light energy is absorbed. Therefore, distant images get fainter.
  3. The intensity of the image is decreased after each reflection, so after a few reflections, the images become invisible.
