Solution

The correct option is B 4 cm
Here the observer is not in air, the surroundings for slab is water (μw=43).

Thus, shift produced for object position:
S=t(1μwμslab)

μslab=32,t=36 cm

S=36⎢ ⎢ ⎢ ⎢1(43)(32)⎥ ⎥ ⎥ ⎥

or S=36⎢ ⎢ ⎢ ⎢3243(32)⎥ ⎥ ⎥ ⎥=36[16×23]

S=36(218)=4 cm

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
Why this question?

Caution: If the observer is not in air, pay attention to use the formula S=t(1μsurroundingμslab)
