Solution

The correct option is B

6

Step 1: Given;

  1. The first half of the total distance with a speed of 2ms-1.
  2. The average speed of the body is 3ms-1.

Step 2: Calculating the speed of the body when it travelled the remaining distance;

  1. Let the total distance be 2d.
  2. Let the half of total distance be covered in t1 time.
  3. Let another half of the total distance be covered in t2 time.

Speed of first half of the total distance, 2=dt1(1)

Speed of another half of the total distance, x=dt2

Averagespeed=totaldistancetotaltime3=2dt1+t2d=3(t1+t2)2(2)

From (1) and (2),

2t1=3(t1+t2)24t1=3t1+3t2t1=3t2

Thus, from the equation of the second half,

dt13=x3dt1=x

From (1),

3(2)=xx=6ms-1

Thus, the speed of the body when it traveled the remaining distance is 6ms-1.

Hence, option (B) is correct.
