Controlled mating of domesticated animals followed by the selection of offspring with superior genotypes helps to preserve advantageous characters through generations and gradually eliminate the harmful ones. This process is known as animal breeding and it is an important aspect of animal husbandry.
Animal breeding helps in increasing the yield and quality of the products (milk, meat, eggs etc.). It also helps in developing disease-resistant offsprings.
