Solution

The correct options are
B Anita invested Rs.300 at 8%
D Anita invested Rs.700 at 9%
Let x represent the amount Anita invested at 8% and let y represent the amount the invested at 9%.
The amount invested at 9% was Rs. 400 more than at 8%.
Hence, y=x+400
The yearly interest from the two investments was Rs. 87.
Hence, 0.08x+0.09y=87
From the first equation we can substitute x+400 for y in the second equation and solve for x.
0.08x+0.09(x+400)=87
8x+9(x+400)=8700
8x+9x+3600=8700
17x=5100
x=300
Therefore, Anita invested Rs. 300 at 8% and she invested 300+400=Rs.700 at 9%.
