Question

Answer in one word.
Name the law behind the dissolution of CO2 gas in soft drinks under high pressure.

Open in App
Solution

When carbonated soft drink beverage bottle is sealed with cap, it is pressurized by a mixture of air and CO2. Due to high partial pressure of CO2, the amount of dissolved CO2 is very high in soft drinks. After removal of cap, excess CO2 escapes and produces effervescence and external pressure decreases. This demonstrates Henry's law.
