It is a term associated with closer relationship between different countries. Their association lies in area of economy, cultural ties, political movements, trade investments etc.

Countries of the world have become interdependent and movement of an action in world markets affects all countries.

e.g. If petrol prices are hiked by the oil-producing countries of the world, it will shoot up prices in all the countries, unless individual governments keep the prices under control through their internal policies.
