Mahatma Gandhi's entry into the Indian freedom movement was indeed the beginning of a new era. Gandhiji had his own style of protest - Satyagraha to fight against the British rulers. Congress advocated Gandhiji's programmes of, Boycott, Removal of Casteism, Hindu Muslim unity and Rural upliftment. Under Gandhiji's leadership, the Indian freedom movement became a mass movement. Thousands of people- both men and women took part in the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement. The Indian National Congress gradually turned into a national organization, having full time dedicated workers. The Gandhian' Phase of the Indian Freedom Movement finally led to the Independence of India from the British Rule in 1947.
