  1. Interconversion of matter refers to the change from one state to another.
  2. It is a process by which matter changes from one state to another and back to its original state, without any change in its chemical composition. There are generally 6 interconversions of the state which we shall discuss now.

(i) Solid to Liquid on the absorption of heat energy: Melting
(ii) Liquid to Gas on the absorption of heat energy: Evaporation
(iii) Gas to liquid on the release of heat energy: Condensation
(iv) Liquid to Solid on the release of heat energy: Freezing
(v) Solid to Gas on the absorption of heat energy: Sublimation
(vi) Gas to Solid on the release of heat energy: Deposition
