Solution

(a) Sheep are prone to attack by ticks and lice. They cause wounds and suck blood which makes the sheep weak. There are high chances of maggots growing in these wounds. Hence, lice and ticks are a nuisance for the sheep.

(b) The occupations included under animal husbandry are sheep rearing, poultry farming, sericulture, pearl farming, pisciculture and lac production.

(c)

Layer birds

Broiler birds

Layer birds are kept for laying eggs.

Broiler birds are kept for meat.

Layer birds are fed with protein–rich diet in order to increase the egg production.

Broiler birds are fed with protein and vitamin–rich diet for increasing their growth rate and for fattening them.

A layer bird lays 200–250 eggs in a year.

A broiler bird’s weight becomes 1,300–1,500 gm in 8–10 weeks.

Example: White leghorn

Example: Rhode Island Red
