(a) The cell membrane is the outer, thin, flexible covering of a cell. The important characteristics of cell membrane are as follows:

(i) It maintains the shape of the cell.

(ii) It protects the inner parts of the cell.

(iii) It regulates the movement of substances in and out of the cell.

(b) Nucleus is the control centre of a cell. Main functions of nucleus are as follows:

(i) It transmits hereditary information to next generation.

(ii) It controls all the metabolic activities of the cell.

(c) The functions of vacuole are as follows:

(i) It maintains internal acidic pH.

(ii) It maintains the turgidity of the cell.

(iii) It stores water and other materials in the cell.

(iv) It stores the excretory products and secretions temporarily.
