(a) A disease is said to be epidemic when a significant proportion of the population is affected by it simultaneously. For example, plague etc.

(b) The diseases that can be passed on from one person to another by air, water, food or physical contact are called communicable diseases. These diseases are caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses etc. Some of the common communicable diseases are typhoid, tuberculosis etc.

(c) Tuberculosis is a communicable disease that can spread from an infected person to a healthy person through contact with the sputum of infected person. So, a person suffering from tuberculosis should avoid going to public places.
