Plasmolysis

The movement of water from the cell when placed in a hypertonic solution due to osmosis is called plasmolysis.

Advantages of plasmolysis:

1. It helps to preserve meat, jams, pickles, etc., as adding large amount of salt or sugar kills the bacteria.
2. It helps to kill weeds which grow in playgrounds and gardens by adding large amount of salt at their base.
