Definition:

  • Some anhydrous substances have a strong attraction to the water. When they are exposed to the atmosphere, they become moist and dissolve forming a saturated solution. Such substances are called Deliquescent.

Example:

  • Anhydrous Calcium Chloride (CaCl2).

Uses of Deliquescent Compounds:

  • Prevent Ice formation.
  • Production of activated charcoal.

Anhydrous Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) is deliquescent.
