  • Sublimation is the transformation of a solid into vapors upon heating directly without going into a liquid state.
  • An example, ammonium chloride undergoes sublimation.

Principle of sublimation:

  • Sublimation is the transformation of a solid into a gas without passing through the liquid state.
  • The contrast between the sublimable & non-sublimable natures of solids provides the basis for sublimation.
  • It works on the principle that solids with very weak intermolecular interactions have a higher vapor pressure than usual.
  • That allows them to transition into vapor immediately.
