Question

Are alkane, alkenes and alkynes considered as functional groups?
Why or why not?

Open in App
Solution

In alkane single bonds are present and that is the functional group. Ex ., Ethane CH3-CH3
In alkene = bonds are present and that is the functional group. Ex., Ethylene CH2 = CH2
In alkyne triple bonds are present and that is the functional group. Ex., Ethyne CHCH
So the single bond, double bond and triple bond are functional group not alkane, alkene and alkyne
