Question

Are all protists unicellular?

Open in App
Solution

Unicellular organisms

  1. They are made up of one cell and all pivotal functions are performed by a single cell.
  2. Example- Protozoa, E.coli, etc.

Protists:

  1. Simple, single-celled eukaryotic organisms.
  2. They are considered neither animals nor fungi or plants.
  3. Mode of reproduction- sexual or asexual.
  4. Examples- algae, plasmodium, euglena, amoebas, slime molds, etc.
  5. Although most protists are single-celled, protists like kelp (brown algae) can grow over 100 meters.
  6. Therefore, not all protists are unicellular.
