Are chrysophytes saprophytic?

Open in App
Solution

Chrysophytes:

  1. Chrysophytes are unicellular, eukaryotic organisms that belong to the kingdom Protista.
  2. Example: diatoms, golden algae, etc.
  3. They are mostly found in marine and freshwater habitats.
  4. Saprophytic organisms obtain nutrition from dead organic matter. Since these organisms are dependent on other organisms for nutrition, they are said to follow a heterotrophic mode of nutrition.
  5. Example includes various types of fungi.
  6. Chrysophytes are not saprophytic. Most of them are photosynthetic organisms. Since these organisms are capable of manufacturing their own food, they are said to follow the autotrophic mode of nutrition.
